Honolulu Coffee opened their newest location at the corner of Kalakaua Ave. and Kapiolani Blvd. (the former Hard Rock Cafe) on October 1st! It’s exciting to have a new cafe option that is centrally located near Waikiki and Ala Moana with ample free parking and without the crowds (for now anyway).
The old Hard Rock Cafe building has been completely redone into an open, airy space that houses a cafe, retail shop, viewable kitchen where all of their pastries are produced, and a “cupping lab” where it looks like you can experience the various coffees they have to offer. But the centerpiece of the space is a massive vintage 1940’s refurbished roaster that roasts coffee beans for all of the Honolulu Coffee worldwide locations including Japan and Shanghai. The beans come from straight from their farm on the Big Island and are shipped off worldwide after roasting.
You can walk right into the cafe from the Kalakaua/Kapiolani intersection side.
On the menu you’ll find various coffees along with pastries, macarons, and my favorite: the roll cake.
There are a few tables inside, but most of the seating is outdoors on the patio.
The general manager recommended the breakfast items too (they have pancakes, waffles, acai bowls too!) so perhaps I’ll try that the next time I go.
