We started our Thanksgiving morning with a relaxing stroll on the beach and had fun catching hermit crabs in the tide pools.
Then in the afternoon we picked up MIL in Mililani and drove over the rainy Koolau Mountains for Thanksgiving dinner at SIL1’s place in Kaneohe.
SIL1 and BIL1 were busy cooking up a feast, including a beautifully brined bird, her famous maki sushi, potato salad, cornbread stuffing, roasted vegetables, etc. etc. Our contributions this year were mashed potatoes, candied yams, and tossed salad. MIL made a pasta with shrimp and asparagus.
Then for dessert we enjoyed a pumpkin chiffon pie.
It was such a nice intimate family dinner and although we were missing SIL2 this year it was nice to have MIL there, who recently made the move from Maui to Oahu to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Nomz loves spending time with her grandma and cousins!
I told D that this year I am thankful for my loving family, our health, and our cozy home. Every year my list remains the same, which means that we did not have any major illnesses or injuries this year, that our family unit is still together and strong, and we still have our home, all of which can never be taken for granted.
Wishing everyone a warm holiday season as well!
