MAC 24-7 Bar + Restaurant

This past weekend, the girls and I enjoyed a “staycation” right here in Waikiki. We’ve traveled together before, but we wanted to do something special one more time before one of the girls gives birth to her first baby in August. One of the other girls came up with the idea for a hotel getaway, and our other friend, through her auntie, hooked us up with an amazing deal for a suite at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki.

We kicked off our night with dinner at MAC 24-7 (which stands for Modern American Cooking, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week). It was my first time there, but I had heard a lot about their offering of serious comfort food with a modern twist, and their humongous pancakes. I love the entrance into the restaurant and their modern but slightly retro interior. They have a looong full bar counter, booth seating, barstool-height seating and views of the beautiful courtyard at the Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio. I wonder if you timed it right, if you would be lucky enough to catch a wedding in the courtyard while dining at MAC 24-7…

My friend was in the mood for breakfast for dinner, and MAC 24-7 was happy to oblige her request. Her Blueberry Pancakes ($15.00) served with guava, coconut and traditional syrup were seriously the size of hubcaps, and yet they were so fluffy. You have to see these to believe it! We theorized at how they must flip these things with a utensil I can only imagine as something that resembles a canoe paddle. Apparently, if you finish it all by yourself, it’s free.

Our other friend ordered a Mac Loco Moco ($17.00), the ultimate in local comfort food. She customized hers with fried rice instead of white rice, and gravy on the side. Appearing after the pancakes, the Loco Moco suddenly seemed to dwarf in size…

Another girl had a Roasted Turkey Avocado Club Sandwich ($14.00) served with French fries and a fried pickle on top.

I was in the mood for something light, so I went with a Chinese Chicken Salad ($11.00) with a side order of brown rice ($4.00). The salad was light and had fresh cilantro in it, my favorite.

The menu here is great. Who doesn’t love classics like Mac-n-Cheese, Loco Moco, and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches with Tomato Soup? Until now, you had to go to a diner or drive-in to get this kind of food, but at MAC 24-7 you can get all this and so much more, together with your favorite glass of wine or cocktail, all in a cool setting. Kudos to MAC 24-7 for bringing comfort food back in style! Now I know where to go when I get hungry for good food at 2:00am.

Back at the hotel we gabbed the night away and played games (girls’ night is pretty tame when there’s a 7 month pregnant lady :)). Here are some shots of the gorgeous views from our ocean front suite on the 33rd floor…

Took me a couple days after that to actually finish all the pancakes! But not without sharing some w/family members! 😉 They were seriously so HUGE…BUT very tasty! I think the guava syrup would’ve been good if I had plain rather than blueberry pancakes, so I mainly stuck to the original syrup. Coconut…not my thing.

I had such fun over the weekend with you girls! We really have to try to make it a point to take trips together…altho we stayed on the island for this trip, it was still great to just “get away” with you gals!

Great review! I was really in the loco moco mode this weekend! It was good and actually an appropriate dinner size (unlike the humongous pancakes!), however it was pretty pricey. But in Waikiki, what can you expect, right? I do like MAC 24-7, it’s a fun place and great comfort food!
I had a FANTASTIC time this weekend! Love you, girls!
