Family Dinner

We gathered at my sister-in-law’s house for dinner to celebrate an achievement award my nephew recently received at his school. When we get together, we always get dinner and a free show because our 3 nephews are so energetic and entertaining!

At the guest of honor’s request, my husband made his signature ozouni (pictured in the bowl in front). This grilled mochi in hot soup is a traditional New Year’s dish in Japan, but our nephew is a big fan year-round.

On my plate:

  • Baked Ham (by sister-in-law 1)
  • Nishime (by sister-in-law 1)
  • Sweet and Sour Spareribs with Pineapple (by sister-in-law 2)
  • Futomaki (by sister-in-law 1)
  • Rice
  • Potato Mac Salad

(Sister-in-law 4 was out of town in Los Angeles this weekend).

Yum!

That’s awesome that your nephew liked ozouni! That’s very much an acquired taste. We’ve been eating that for New Year’s ever since I can remember, and it took me a LONG time to actually “tolerate” mochi in soup before I could actually eat a whole bowl. 🙂

Ozoni is my favorite too! Okay…actually I like anything with mochi!
