Scenes from Grocery Shopping

We went around town shopping for tonight’s sukiyaki dinner.

The meat store that my parents swear has the best beef ever. The man here usually gives my mom discounts but too bad it was a different man on duty today.

The vegetable store.

The bakery. There were so many samples it was like a bread buffet.

The WALL of beer at the supermarket. Yes, Japanese people have their priorities straight.

Most supermarkets have recycling bins at the entrance. From left to right: clear plastic trays, milk cartons, plastic bottles, and Styrofoam trays. (There’s also curbside pickup of glass bottles, cans, and newspapers.  My mom also composts her food scraps (veggie peel, eggshells, fish bones) so the amount of trash produced is minimal).
